About thirty kilometres east of Kathmandu, Dhulikhel is known for its panoramic views of the Himalaya. It is an authentic Newar town and a good starting point for short treks.
Its temples and old houses are another fine example of Newar craftsmanship, including the triple-roofed Harisiddhi temple and temples to Vishnu and Shiva. The view is even more spectacular from the Kali temple at the top of the hill, about thirty minutes on foot, and it's the kind of place where you want to stay a while.
