People have long come to Nagarkot for one thing: the view. Many hotels have made the most of it with terraces facing the mountains.
There are many fine viewpoints around the Kathmandu Valley, but Nagarkot beats them all. It lies about fifteen kilometres from Bhaktapur, less than an hour's drive, at around 2,200 metres. On clear days the Himalaya stretches along the horizon, Everest included, and sunrise and sunset are unforgettable.
The forests are rich in birds and butterflies. After a few days in the city it is the ideal place for calm and fresh air, and the starting point for several walks.
